Approximately 25 years ago, the furnace was refurbished, and the area of the forecourt converted to a public park, where many of the Lonaconing and George's Creek events take place.

Event: Artists Market, Street Fair, History Exhibition, and Folk Music Show -- The Iron Furnace 175th Anniversary Celebration
When: Saturday, September 3rd -- 10:00 am to 7:00 pm
Where: Throughout the town of Lonaconing, Maryland; open to the public at no admission charge.

A detailed description and a colored, detailed drawing of what is thought to be the entire operational furnace is mounted in the park on the lower terrace, somewhat to the right of the structure.

Another copy of the drawing and explanation and an extensive description of the history of the furnace is kept at the George's Creek Library, history room, on Main Street in Lonaconing. The catalog is available at www.lonaconing.cc
